Howe breaks Lawrence goals record as Vikings complete sweep of Concordia

APPLETON, Wis. -- Senior forward Marc Howe broke the Lawrence University career goals record as the Vikings finished a weekend sweep of Concordia University of Wisconsin with a 4-2 Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association victory Saturday night.

Howe scored in the first period for career goal No. 49, breaking the record of 48 held by Mike Burkhart and Nick Jennette.

Lawrence (3-0-0, 2-0-0 MCHA) jumped on the Falcons (0-5-0, 0-4-0 MCHA) early with Josh DeSmit's goal just 45 seconds into the game. Howe made it 2-0 with his record-breaking goal off an assist from Ben DiMarco with 5:06 left in the opening period.

The Vikings struck again early in the second period with Matt Hughes scoring off a pass from Howe just 53 seconds into the second period. Concordia got on the board midway through the second period on Brad Lukasz's goal.

The Falcons then cut their deficit in half with Greg Douglas' goal at 9:36 of the third period. Lawrence got some breathing room when DiMarco scored of passes from Howe and Hughes with just 5:04 left.

Evan Johnson picked up the win for the Vikings with 16 saves. Michael Wynenn allowed the first three goals and took the loss.

Lawrence returns to action next Friday when it travels to Lake Forest College.
