DiMarco's first hat trick helps Vikings rout Concordia

MEQUON, Wis. -- Ben DiMarco picked up his first career hat trick and Marc Howe tied the career goals record as the Lawrence University hockey team routed Concordia University of Wisconsin 8-1 on Friday night in a Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association game at the Ozaukee Ice Center.

DiMarco, a sophomore forward, scored the first two goals of the contest and then added a goal midway through the third period to record the hat trick. Howe, who also had an assist, scored early in the third period for his 48th career goal. That ties the Lawrence record held by Mike Burkhart and Nick Jennette.

Evan Johnson made 21 saves to pick up the win before giving way to backup Brady Kain midway through the third period.

Defenseman Jameson Raymond collected four assists, which is the second-highest game total in school history. Tom Conti holds the record with seven, set back in 1998.

DiMarco scored at 4:08 of the first and then scored again with 48 seconds left in the first period. Brad Scurfield beat the buzzer with a goal with less than a second left to give Lawrence a 3-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

Concordia got its lone goal of the game on the power play when Tyler Fischer scored midway through the second period. Concordia was 1-for-4 on the power play while Lawrence was 4-for-7.

Lawrence put the game away early in the third period. Sam Johnson scored just 51 seconds into the first period to make it 4-1. Howe then scored unassisted at 5:35, and Johnson scored again less than two minutes later to give Lawrence a 6-1 edge. DiMarco completed the hat trick with a goal at 9:44, and Matt Hughes finished the scoring with a goal at 11:48.

Everett Devlin made 43 saves and took the loss for Concordia.
