Big second period leads eighth-ranked Saints past Lawrence

DULUTH, Minn. -- The eighth-ranked College of St. Scholastica scored four four goals in the second period and went on to a 7-3 win over Lawrence University Saturday night at the Thanksgiving Weekend Showcase.

Tyler Miller had two goals and an assist to pace St. Scholastica (5-1-2). Jameson Raymond, Marc Howe and Billy Siers all scored for the Vikings (6-3-0).

Miller and Carter Davis scored goals in the first 5:32 of the contest to stake the Saints to a 2-0 lead. Raymond countered at the 7:55 mark and Lawrence trailed 2-1 after the first period.

The Saints then scored four goals in the first 12:10 of the second period to bolt to a 6-1 lead. Miller was the first to score in that barrage, followed by Colin Trachsel, Brett Corcoran and Jordan Baird.

Lawrence cut the lead to 6-3 with third-period goals from Siers and Howe, but the Saints tacked on a late power-play goal to round out the scoring.

Brennan Poderzay made 19 saves to pick up the win. Evan Johnson made 17 saves before giving way to Michael Baldino and took the loss.

Lawrence embarks on a trip to Europe to play three exhibition games next week, and the Vikings do not play another regular-season game until they host UW-Stevens Point on Jan. 2.
