APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University hockey team got a hat trick from Marc Howe and Evan Johnson posted his third consecutive shutout, as the Vikings pounded the University of Minnesota-Crookston 8-0 in a Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association game at the Appleton Family Ice Center.
Johnson made 17 saves for the second consecutive game to pick up the shutout. The three consecutive shutouts is a Lawrence record, and Johnson now has four shutouts for his career. The four shutouts ties the career record held by Andrew Isaac, who played for the Vikings from 2003-07. Lawrence beat Crookston 5-0 on Friday night.
Howe earned the second hat trick of his career, as he scored three of Lawrence's first five goals. Nick Jennette scored twice for the Vikings and had a pair of assists.
Lawrence (3-4-0, 3-3-0 MCHA), which has won three straight, got on the board just 2:35 into the game when Howe scored on the power play. The Vikings took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission when Jennette scored off an assist from Howe at 13:54.
The Vikings scored three goals in a span of 2:18 in the second period. Howe scored at 6:44, Jon Bellotti added another at 8:08, and Howe got the hat trick with a goal at 9:02.
Jon Sacks got his second collegiate goal early in the third period, and Scott Minarcik and Jennette closed out the scoring for Lawrence.
The Vikings fired 52 shots at Crookston (1-7-0, 1-5-0). Jack Hanna made the start in net for the Golden Eagles, but he was pulled after the Vikings led 5-0.
Lawrence returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Lake Forest College for a nonconference game.
