APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University hockey team completed a weekend sweep of Northland College with a 4-0 Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association shutout on Saturday at the Appleton Family Ice Center.
The Vikings (13-9-1, 13-4-1 MCHA) beat the Lumberjacks (1-21-1, 1-16-1) 3-0 on Friday night.
Lawrence goaltender Jim Ryan picked up his second career shutout by making nine saves. Daniel McIntosh took the loss and made 36 saves for Northland.
Lawrence also tied the school record for victories in a season with 13. The 2006-07 team finished 13-14-2.
Marc Howe scored a pair of goals to pace the Lawrence offense. He got things started with an even-strength goal at 17:11 of the first period.
Josh DeSmit staked Lawrence to a 2-0 lead with a power-play goal early in the second period when the Vikings had a two-man advantage. Lawrence finished 1-for-8 on the power play.
Lawrence sealed the win when Matt Hughes scored at 11:28 of the third to push the lead to 3-0. Howe finished the scoring with an unassisted short-handed goal at 15:55. It was the fifth short-hander of his career, which is a Lawrence record.
The Vikings return to action next weekend when they host Finlandia University.
