Vikings complete weekend sweep of Northland

ASHLAND, Wis. -- Ben DiMarco scored a pair of goals for the second consecutive game, and the Lawrence University hockey team thumped Northland College 7-1 in a Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association game Saturday at the Bay Area Civic Center.

DiMarco scored his fourth and fifth goals of the season for Lawrence (5-7-0, 5-3-0 MCHA), and Jon Sheridan and Jim Crowley had two assists apiece.

Lawrence went 4-for-10 on the power play, and limited Northland (1-10-0, 1-7-0) to 1-for-7 on the man-advantage. The Vikings outshot Northland 50-15.

Billy Siers got the scoring started for Lawrence when he scored on the power play at 8:09 of the first period. Lawrence then blew the game open in the second period. The Vikings scored four times in a span of 6:37.

DiMarco's power-play goal at 13:20 made it 2-0, and Jameson Raymond scored on the power play at 16:44 to put the Vikings up 3-0. Lawrence had a two-man advantage when Corey Garrett scored at 18:14, and Marc Howe then scored with just three seconds left in the second period for a 5-0 Lawrence lead.

Matt Hughes made it 6-0 with his goal at 8:10 of the third, and Northland finally got on the board on Shaun Newman's power-play goal at 10:50. DiMarco wrapped up the scoring with his even-strength goal at 14:53.

Evan Johnson made 14 saves to pick up the win for Lawrence and even his record on the season at 5-5-0. B.J. Leach made 43 saves and took the loss.

Lawrence takes a break for the holidays and doesn't play again until it travels to Finlandia University on Jan. 9-10.
