ASHLAND, Wis. -- The Lawrence University hockey team dominated Northland College en route to a 5-0 Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association victory Friday night at the Bay Area Civic Center.
Lawrence sophomore goaltender Evan Johnson made 13 saves for the shutout and broke the school's career shutout record in the process. Johnson picked up his fifth shutout and the fourth of the season. The career record of four shutouts was held by Andrew Isaac, who starred for the Vikings from 2003-07.
The Vikings (4-7-0, 4-3-0 MCHA) fired 43 shots at the Lumberjacks (1-9-0, 1-6-0) and converted 2 of 9 chances on the power play. The Lawrence penalty killers stuffed Northland on all seven of its power-play chances.
Freshman forward Ben DiMarco had the first multi-goal game of his career with a pair of tallies. Freshman defenseman Jon Sheridan picked up his first career goal. Marc Howe and Nick Jennette also scored for the Vikings.
Freshman defenseman Colin Smith picked up three assists, and Aaron LaFave added a pair of helpers.
DiMarco scored the first two goals of the game, scoring at 7:01 and again just 14 seconds later. Sheridan made it 3-0 on a power-play goal at 11:43 of the first, and Howe got his sixth goal of the season at 16:22 to give Lawrence a 4-0 lead after one period. Jennette scored on the power play midway through the second to complete the scoring.
