Vikings, Sabres skate to overtime tie

FOND DU LAC, Wis. -- The Lawrence University hockey team skated to a 1-1 overtime tie at Marian University Saturday night in a Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association game.

The Sabres (10-6-3, 10-3-1 MCHA) took a 1-0 lead 8:51 into the first period when Adam Freeman took a pass from Jason Ford and found the back of the net.

Scott Minarcik got the equalizer for Lawrence (9-9-1, 9-4-1) at 11:05 of the second. He scored his fourth goal of the season off passes from Ben DiMarco and Corey Garrett.

That was it for the scoring, as Lawrence goaltender Evan Johnson finished with 29 saves and Cullen Caldwell had 30 for Marian.

Lawrence actually had a power play in the overtime when Marian was whistled for too many men on the ice, but the Vikings could not convert. Lawrence went 0-for-6 on the man-advantage, and Marian was 0-for-3.

Both teams managed only one shot on goal in the overtime. Marian had a 31-30 edge in shots for the game.

This was Lawrence's first tie of the season. The Vikings went 1-2-0 in their three previous OT games of the campaign.
