Finlandia rallies to down Lawrence

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Finlandia University hockey team rallied from two goals down to pull out a 3-2 Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association victory over Lawrence University Friday night at the Appleton Family Ice Center.

James Neitsch's power-play goal with 7:47 left in the third period snapped a 2-2 tie and lifted Finlandia (10-10-2, 10-7-2 MCHA) to the victory.

Lawrence (13-10-1, 13-5-1) grabbed a 2-0 lead with a pair of first-period goals. Billy Siers got the scoring started for Lawrence just two minutes into the contest when he scored off passes from Corey Garrett and Jon Sacks. Nick Jennette made it 2-0 with just 1:54 left in the first period with an unassisted goal.

The Lions cut that lead in half midway through the second period when Keith Johnson scored for Finlandia. Marc Marcotte's power-play goal on a two-man advantage with 37 seconds left in the second period tied the game at 2-2.

Ryan Donovan made 30 saves to pick up the win. Evan Johnson made 29 saves but took the loss for Lawrence.

The teams wrap up the series Saturday afternoon.
