HANCOCK, Mich. -- Matt Jacobs scored the game-winning goal and then added an insurance goal Friday night as the Lawrence University hockey team beat Finlandia University 3-1 in a Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association game.
Jacobs scored his second and third goals of the season, and the Vikings (6-7-0, 6-3-0 MCHA) extended their win streak to three games.
Evan Johnson stopped 30 shots for the Vikings to improve to 6-5-0 on the season.
Lawrence trailed 1-0 after Chris Hendrickson scored early in the second period for Finlandia (6-6-0, 6-3-0). Jameson Raymond tied the game at 1-1 at 7:44 of the second, with Josh DeSmit and Matt Hughes picking up the assists.
Jacobs gave Lawrence the lead for good a little more than three minutes later. Masa Takahashi and Jon Bellotti both assisted on Jacobs' even-strength goal.
Jacobs then sealed the win for Lawrence at 8:19 of the third period with another even-strength goal.
Neither team was able to score on the power play. Lawrence went 0-for-6 on the man-advantage and Finlandia was 0-for-9.
The team wrap up the series Saturday afternoon.
