Adrian completes weekend sweep of Lawrence

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Adrian College hockey team used a huge second period to roll to a 9-1 Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association victory at Lawrence University on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (4-1-1, 2-0-0 MCHA) completed a weekend sweep of Lawrence after winning 5-0 on Friday night.

Adrian led 1-0 after Eric Miller's goal at 15:28 of the first period and took that lead into the locker room for the first intermission. Miller got his second goal of the night just 17 seconds into the second period and that was part of a six-goal onslaught in the second period.

Joel Workman scored at 7:38 for a 3-0 lead, and Chris Stansik, Drew Slatterly, Bobby Hineman, and Shawn Skelly all scored in a span of 4:34 at the end of the second period to give Adrian a 7-0 lead.

Miller completed a hat trick with a power-play goal 9:54 into the third period.

Matt Hughes got his first collegiate goal for Lawrence (0-3-0, 0-2-0) with 5:35 left in the final period.

Brad Fogal made 31 saves to pick up the win. He also stopped a penalty shot in the second period by Jonathon Sheridan. Jim Ryan and Brady Kain split time in net for the Vikings. Ryan gave up six goals, and Kain allowed three goals in just 5:07 in his first collegiate action.

Lawrence is back in action next weekend with a home-and-home series with the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
