Jennette's big night leads Vikings past Crookston

APPLETON, Wis. -- Nick Jennette scored four times to lead the Lawrence University hockey team to a 5-3 Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association win Friday night over the University of Minnesota-Crookston.

Jennette, a junior forward from Grand Rapids, Mich., tied the second-highest game goal total in school history. Chris Henderson scored four times vs. Illinois Benedictine on Nov. 21, 1998. The school record is five, set by Mike Vernon in the same game against Illinois Benedictine.

It was Masa Takahashi who got Lawrence (6-11-3, 6-8-1 MCHA) on the board first when he scored on the power play just 7:33 into the first period. The score stayed that way until Jennette scored twice late in the second period. His power-play goal at 16:16 put the Vikings up 2-0, and Jennette added another power-play at 18:10 to put the Vikings up 3-0 after two periods. Lawrence finished 3-for-7 on the man-advantage.

Matt Hann scored for Crookston (5-15-0, 4-10-0) early in the third period, but Jennette countered for Lawrence. He intercepted a pass near the Crookston net and beat Justin Klinkhammer for the hat trick and a 4-1 Lawrence lead.

The Golden Eagles then scored twice in a span of 3:12 to cut Lawrence's lead to 4-3 with 3:40 remaining. Jennette then sealed the win with an empty-net goal with just 21 seconds left.

Evan Johnson made 24 saves to pick up the win for Lawrence. Klinkhammer took the loss in relief of Eric Everson, who was tossed from the contest after receiving a game misconduct at 14:04 of the second period.

The teams wrap up the two-game series Saturday afternoon.
