CROOKSTON, Minn. -- John Lombardi's unassisted goal early in the third period was the only scoring, as the University of Minnesota-Crookston beat Lawrence University 1-0 in a Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association game Sunday afternoon at the Crookston Civic Center.
The win completed a weekend sweep for Crookston (3-6-0, 2-4-0 MCHA), while Lawrence has now lost (1-6-1, 1-5-0) five of its last six.
Lombardi's fourth goal of the season came 1:24 into the final period. The loss spoiled a fine effort from Lawrence goalie Jim Ryan, who stopped 26 shots. Eric Everson picked up the win for Crookston by stopping all 36 Lawrence shots.
For the second game in a row, the Vikings outshot Crookston, with Lawrence owning a nine-shot advantage.
Neither team cashed in on the power play, as Lawrence went 0-for-7 and Crookston was 0-for-3. Lawrence went 0-for-11 on the power play for the weekend.
Lawrence returns to action Friday when it begins a two-game series with visiting Northland College.
