Vikings double up Northland

ASHLAND, Wis. -- Marc Howe scored two goals and handed out two assists, as the Lawrence University hockey team posted a 6-3 Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association victory at Northland College Friday night.

Lawrence (8-11-3, 8-8-1 MCHA), which is unbeaten in six of its last seven games, dominated the Lumberjacks (3-19-0, 3-14-0). The Vikings outshot Northland 52-18 and ran their win streak against the Lumberjacks to 15 games.

Billy Siers got the scoring started for Lawrence at 7:02 of the first period, but Zach Kozak countered for Northland just 1:50 later. The Vikings got a power-play goal from Josh DeSmit at 15:23 and led 2-1 after one period. Lawrence finished 2-for-7 on the man-advantage on the evening.

Nick Jennette scored on the power play for Lawrence, off assists from Siers and Howe, to put the Vikings up 3-1 at 7:08 of the second. Tony Huberty got a power-play goal for Northland at 10:36 to cut the lead in half, but Howe scored just 23 seconds later for Lawrence.

Joe Belanger scored at 7:34 of the third to cut Lawrence's lead to 4-3, but Jennette and Howe put the game away for the Vikings. Jennette scored off assists from Howe and DeSmit at 15:20, and Howe sealed the win with a goal at 18:35.

Evan Johnson made 15 saves to pick up the win for the Vikings. Daniel McIntosh stopped 46 shots for Northland.

The teams wrap up the weekend series Saturday afternoon at the Bay Area Civic Center.
