Vikings post shutout to complete sweep of Northland

APPLETON, Wis. -- Jim Ryan picked up his first career shutout, and the Lawrence University hockey team downed Northland Collegem 4-0 on Saturday in a Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association game.

Ryan, a junior goaltender from Manteno, Ill., made 17 saves to pick up the shutout. Ryan ran his scoreless minutes streak to 109:17. He increased his season save percentage to .949 and lowered his goals against average to 1.09.

The Vikings gave Ryan a lead late in the first period. Masa Takahashi picked up his fourth goal of the season when he scored at 18:36 off passes from Neil Wallace and Pat Tuohy. Marc Howe quickly added to that lead when he scored a short-handed goal just eight seconds into the second period to put the Vikings up 2-0.

Wallace then scored with just 51 seconds remaining in the second period off a pass from Austin Montgomery to give the Vikings a 3-0 edge heading into the final period. Matt Jacobs completed the scoring for Lawrence with a power-play goal at 2:21 of the third.

Lawrence completed a weekend sweep after winning 4-3 on Friday night. The Vikings have now beaten Northland 14 consecutive times and ran their unbeaten streak against the Lumberjacks to 17 games.
