APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University hockey team scored the final three goals of the game to pull out a 4-3 Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association victory over Northland College Friday night at the Appleton Family Ice Center.
The victory snapped a six-game winless streak (0-5-1) for Lawrence, which improved to 2-6-1 and 2-5-0 in the MCHA. Northland falls to 1-9-0 and 1-6-0 in the league.
After Marc Howe started the scoring for Lawrence just 3:58 into the game, the Lumberjacks scored the next three goals to take control. Nick Matson's power-play goal at 9:19 of the second period gave Northland a 3-1 lead.
Lawrence started battling back just a few minutes later when Josh DeSmit scored off assists from Nick Jennette and Howe at 13:39 of the second.
The Vikings tied the game on the power play in the third period. Matt Jacobs scored his first career goal at 9:44 of the third period to tie the game at 3-3. Howe then got the game-winner at 15:45, with assists coming from DeSmit and Jennette.
It wasn't over for Lawrence, which had to kill off a late penalty to preserve the victory.
Goaltender Jim Ryan picked up his first victory for Lawrence. Ryan came on in relief of Evan Johnson midway through the second period and stopped all eight shots he faced.
The teams will finish the two-game series Saturday afternoon.
