MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The Lawrence University hockey team saw its season come to an end Sunday with a 4-2 loss to the Milwaukee School of Engineering in the quarterfinals of the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs.
MSOE (15-12-0) took both games of the two-game quarterfinal series after winning 3-1 on Saturday evening. The Raiders took control of the game in the second period, and Lawrence (10-14-3) wasn't able to put together a comeback in the final 20 minutes.
The Raiders built a 2-0 edge with a pair of goals in the first six minutes of the contest. Reid Crawford scored just 2:19 into the game and Steve Smiddy got a goal at 5:53 for the Raiders. Lawrence countered with Marc Howe's goal at 6:06 of the first to cut the lead in half.
The score would remain the same until early in the second period when MSOE's Simon Labrosse-Gelinas scored an even-strength goal at 1:38. The Raiders made it 4-1 at 10:38 of the second when Ben Kenyon scored a short-handed goal, MSOE's third of the series.
Nick Jennette scored on the power play for Lawrence at 10:24 of the third to trim the margin to 4-2 but that's as close as the Vikings would get. It was the 18th goal of the season for Jennette, who tied the school season goals record shared by Joe Searl (2006-07) and Danny Schroder (2002-03).
The Vikings were limited to only 1-for-11 on the man-advantage, and MSOE was 0-for-7.
Chris Keller made 28 saves to get the win for MSOE. Evan Johnson made 20 saves and took the loss for Lawrence, which outshot the Raiders 30-24.
