FOND DU LAC, Wis. -- The Lawrence University hockey team's third-period rally came up short, and Marian College held on for a 4-3 Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association win Friday at the Blue Line Ice Center.
Lawrence (5-11-2, 5-8-0 MCHA) trailed 3-0 heading into the third period, but the Vikings rallied with the help of a pair of power-play goals.
After Marian's Todd Collins got sent off for slashing at 1:29, Matt Jacobs converted the power-play chance for Lawrence just three seconds before the penalty expired.
The Vikings then had a two-man advantage just over a minute later when Kyle Jones and Jeffrey Wills both were assessed minor penalties. Nick Jennette scored at 5:40 for Lawrence, and the Vikings had cut the lead to 3-2.
Jason Ford scored at 10:23 for Marian to bump the lead back to 4-2, but the Vikings battled back. With both teams down a skater, Josh Peterson scored for the Vikings at 13:14 to cut the margin to 4-3.
The Vikings pulled their goaltender in the final minute, but Marian (12-6-0, 11-2-0) hung on for the win.
Jason Jadczak made 27 saves to get the win for Marian. Evan Johnson made 39 saves in the loss.
The teams play again Saturday in Appleton.
