APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie with Lake Forest College Saturday night in a nonconference game.
The tie snapped a three-game losing streaks for both Lawrence (1-4-0) and Lake Forest (1-7-0).
It looked like it was going to be a high-scoring game when Lawrence got a goal just 3:54 into the first period. Marc Howe's first goal of the season came off assists by Nick Jennette and goaltender Evan Johnson.
Lake Forest tied the game at 1-1 late in the first period when Chris Wilson scored an even-strength goal off a pass from Chris Jackson with just 1:59 remaining.
That was it for both offenses, as Johnson stopped 22 shots over the final two periods and the overtime. Johnson finished with 31 saves. Scott Campbell made 27 saves for Lake Forest, including 21 over the final two periods and overtime.
Lawrence had its best night of the season on the penalty kill, stuffing the Foresters on all seven of their man-advantages. Lawrence was 0-for-3 on the power play.
The Vikings return to action next Friday when they travel to Minnesota-Crookston for a two-game series.
