Monmouth routs Lawrence

MONMOUTH, Ill. -- The Monmouth College football team scored two touchdowns in the final 1:01 of the first half to pull away and roll to a 47-2 Midwest Conference victory Saturday over Lawrence University.

The Scots (2-0, 1-0 MWC) led 13-2 when Caleb Pratt capped a 13-play, 94-yard drive with a one-yard plunge for a touchdown with 1:01 left in the first half.

Lawrence quarterback Nick Maxam was intercepted on the Vikings' next play from scrimmage by Kyle Harmon. He returned the interception 14 yards to the Lawrence 24. Alex Tanney hit Mike Blodgett with a touchdown pass on the next play, and the Scots led 27-2 at the half.

The Scots then scored on their first two possessions of the second half to put the game away.

Tanney completed 24 of 36 passes for 244 yards and three touchdowns. Blodgett caught six passes for 86 yards to lead Monmouth. Noah Roseland paced Monmouth's rushing attack with 21 carries for 86 yards and two touchdowns.

Lawrence (0-1, 0-1 MWC) was held to only 82 yards of total offense. Maxam completed 10 of 20 passes for only 48 yards, and he threw a pair of interceptions. Craig Ebert ran 16 times for 85 yards for the Vikings.

Lawrence hosts St. Norbert College next Saturday in the home opener at the Banta Bowl.
