APPLETON, Wis. -- Tim Salm and Ben Webster both hit grand slams in the second game and Salm homered twice in the opener to lead the Lawrence University baseball team to a nonconference doubleheader sweep of Wisconsin Lutheran College on Wednesday at Whiting Field.
Lawrence took the opener 12-7, and the Vikings won the nightcap 17-4. Salm finished the doubleheader 4-for-6 with four runs scored and 11 runs batted in.
In the opener, Lawrence starter Andy Frelich gave up four runs in the top of the first, but Lawrence tied it in the bottom half of the inning. The Vikings started to pull away with six runs in the second. Lawrence had already scored two runs in the second and had the bases loaded with no outs when Salm stepped to the plate. He blasted a grand slam to put the Vikings up 8-0.
Lawrence added two more runs in the third, highlighted by Otte's solo shot, his second homer of the season.
After Wisconsin Lutheran scored three times against Lawrence starter Alex Fritsch in the top of the fourth, the Vikings then exploded for seven runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Forseth's run-scoring double started the scoring for Lawrence in the fourth. Andy Bremberger followed with a two-run single to give Lawrence a 13-3 lead. Doug McEneaney's single then loaded the bases for Webster, who blasted a grand slam over the left field fence to put Lawrence up 17-3.
