WAUKESHA, Wis. -- Lawrence University shortstop Jordan Clark tied the school record with five hits in the opener and finished the day with eight hits as the Vikings swept a Midwest Conference doubleheader from Carroll University on Saturday by the scores of 11-5 and 10-9.
Clark, a senior from Omro, Wis., went 5-for-5 in the opener to tie the mark held by eight other players. He went 3-for-6 in the nightcap to push his average on the season to .405.
Lawrence (11-11, 4-4 MWC) pounded out 18 hits in the opener and got an outstanding relief performance from senior Alex Fritsch.
The Vikings scored runs in every inning but the first and the seventh en route to the win. Wes Otte, who went 4-for-5, drove in five runs and smacked a solo homer to lead off the second inning.
Andy Frelich, Luke Kostreva, and Eric Bohling all had two hits for Lawrence in the first game.
Fritsch tossed four innings of relief to pick up his first save of the season. He allowed four hits, one run, struck out three, and walked three. Ben Konetzke worked the first five innings to pick up the win.
Lawrence built a 10-4 lead in the second game and then had to hold off the Pioneers (7-17, 1-11) to complete the sweep.
Clark and Frelich both went 3-for-6 in the second game to pace the Vikings. Otte and Bohling both had two hits.
Lawrence led 6-4 when the Vikings exploded for four runs in the seventh. The big blow in the frame was Frelich's three-run homer and Clark's run-scoring triple.
Carroll countered with two runs in the bottom of the seventh and that would be it for Lawrence starter Aaron Leitner, who allowed only two earned runs and picked up his fourth win of the season.
The Pioneers then scored three times in the ninth against reliever Andrew Wilt, but Frank Forseth came in to shut the door.
With the bases loaded and no outs, Forseth got Matt Eschenbauch to ground back to him, and Forseth fired home for the first out. The next batter, Justin Weber, also grounded back to Forseth, and the Vikings got another force out at home. Mike Karpinski then popped up on the infield for the final out.
Lawrence returns to action Monday for a nonconference doubleheader with UW-Stout.
