Lawrence rolls to doubleheader sweep of Finlandia

APPLETON, Wis. -- Three Lawrence University pitchers combined on a one-hit 15-0 shutout in the opener, and the Vikings rolled to an 11-2 victory in the nightcap in a nonconference doubleheader sweep of the Finlandia University baseball team Monday at Don Hawkins Field.

Aaron Leitner, Andrew Wilt, and Andy Frelich combined to limit the Lions to just one hit in the opener. Leitner picked up the win with four innings of no-hit baseball. He struck out five and walked one.

Finlandia's only hit was a solid single up the middle in the sixth.

Lawrence (8-10) pounded out 14 hits in the opener and took advantage of five walks and five Finlandia errors.

Nick Pedretti went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs to pace the Lawrence offense. Eric Bohling went 3-for-3 for the Vikings in the opener. Jordan Clark and Hawk Haiduke both had two hits for Lawrence.

The Vikings scored three times in the first to jump on top, with Pedretti picking up a two-run single. Lawrence made 6-0 with three more runs in the second. Haiduke had a run-scoring double, and Wes Otte drove in a run with a single in that inning.

Lawrence then broke the game open with six runs in the third. Pedretti and Robert Rashid both had run-scoring doubles in the inning.

The Vikings added three more runs in the fifth, with Ray Tucker driving in a pair of runs with a single.

Finlandia led 1-0 in the nightcap before Lawrence scored three times in the bottom of the third. Rashid had a run-scoring single in the inning, and the Vikings were helped out in the inning by two Finlandia errors.

The Vikings then scored four times in the fourth to pull away. Clark belted a two-run double, and Otte had a run-scoring double in the inning.

Lawrence sealed the victory with four runs in the sixth, with Otte delivering a two-run single.

Otte went 2-for-4 in the nightcap and drove in four runs. Clark was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Rashid went 2-for-4.

Ben Konetzke went four innings to pick up his first win of the season. He allowed six hits, struck out six, and walked one.
