Forseth pitches Lawrence to win over Scots

ROCKFORD, Ill. -- Frank Forseth allowed only six hits in going the distance to lead the Lawrence University baseball team to a 4-2 nonconference victory over Monmouth College on Wednesday.

Forseth, a senior from Oshkosh, Wis., allowed only a pair of unearned runs in the top of the fourth inning in the neutral-site game at Road Ranger Stadium. He struck out two and didn't walk a batter to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Monmouth (5-9) led 2-0 after the top of the fourth after Brad Winkler's two-run single. Lawrence (6-10) bounced back with single runs in the fourth and fifth to tie the score.

Eric Bohling's single to right field scored Hawk Haiduke in the fourth to cut the lead to 2-1. Lawrence then tied it in the fifth when Andy Frelich singled to score Jordan Clark.

The Vikings took the lead with a pair of runs in the seventh. Frelich was at third with two outs when Nick Pedretti tripled to score Frelich and give the Vikings a 3-2 edge. After Haiduke was hit by a pitch, he stole second and the throw of Winkler, the Monmouth catcher, sailed into center field. That allowed Pedretti to score and the Vikings led 4-2.

Pedretti finished 3-for-4 to pace the Lawrence offense, and Bohling added a pair of hits.

Forseth dominated the Scots in the late innings, retiring the final 10 Monmouth batters in order to seal the win.

Lawrence returns to action Monday at Don Hawkins Field when it hosts Finlandia University in a nonconference doubleheader.
