APPLETON, Wis. -- The Ripon College baseball team pounded out 41 hits en route to sweeping a Midwest Conference doubleheader from Lawrence Saturday at Whiting Field by the scores of 19-1 and 17-8.
In the opener, Ripon jumped out to an 7-1 lead after five innings and then ended the game after eight innings on the 10-run rule. Ripon scored three runs in the seventh and then added nine more in the eighth.
Mac Shumann paced Ripon (12-3, 4-0 MWC) by going 3-for-4 with two homers, four runs scored, and five runs batted in. Bryant Bullock went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBIs.
Jason Wierschke went eight innings, allowing eight hits while striking out four and walking none, to get the win.
Doug McEneaney and Robert Rashid both had two hits to pace Lawrence's eight-hit attack. Frank Forseth pitched the first six innings and took the loss for the Vikings (3-9, 0-4).
Ripon pounded out 27 hits and scored in every inning but the third and the ninth in the nightcap.
Brandon Birschbach and Nick Beaman both went 5-for-6 in the second game to lead Ripon. The Red Hawks had eight players with at least two hits.
Adam Linsmeyer allowed four runs and five hits over five innings to pick up the win.
Sophomore Wes Otte and freshman Ben Konetzke both hit their first career homers for Lawrence. Konetzke paced the offense by going 3-for-4.
Luke Kostreva gave up 14 hits over four-plus innings and took the loss.
