Lawrence scrimmages Timber Rattlers

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University baseball team scrimmaged the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Tuesday, with the minor league squad posting a 3-0 victory in the seven-inning contest.

The Rattlers, a Class A affilate of the Seattle Mariners, provided pitchers and catchers for both teams and both teams played with wood bats. This is the second consecutive year the teams have scrimmaged.

Wisconsin managed five hits, and the Vikings didn't record a base hit. Neither team made an error.

The Rattlers broke a scoreless tie with a run in the fourth. Danny Cornell led off the inning with a triple, and he scored on Juan Diaz's single.

Wisconsin added two runs in the fifth, with the help of a pair of walks and a wild pitch. Gerardo Avila doubled and later scored on Edilio Colina's double.

Lawrence resumes its schedule Thursday when it opens Midwest Conference play at Ripon College.
