Vikings drop pair to Northwood

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Nick Rodriguez tossed a two-hitter in his first start of the season as the Northwood University baseball team swept a nonconference doubleheader from Lawrence University 11-2 and 6-0 on Thursday afternoon.

Rodriguez tossed four innings, allowing a bunt single in the third and a single in the fourth while striking out four.

The Seahawks (25-6) scored five times in the first inning, as Corey Cooke led off with a single, followed by an RBI triple from Nik Smith and Oscar DePablos' double off the scoreboard. Manny Noboa hit his second home run of the year to make it 4-0, and Max Rios scored on a sacrifice fly by Rafael Ortega.

In the opener, Northwood used a six inning, six strikeout performance from Justin Knoll (5-0) to pick up the win.

Lawrence (3-6) put one run on the board in the top of the third, but Northwood answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead.

Northwood tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth and five more in the fifth to seal the win.

Eric Bohling had two hits in the opener to pace the Vikings.
