FORT PIERCE, Fla. -- Andy Frelich picked up the win and drove in three runs with his first collegiate home run to lead the Lawrence University baseball team to a nonconference doubleheader split with Grinnell College on Monday.
Lawrence won the nightcap 7-4 after dropping the opening game 9-0.
Frelich got all but the final out of the game, allowing five hits and striking out three while walking two. He went 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in three runs.
The Vikings (2-2) took a 2-0 lead in the first, with Robert Rashid stealing home and Frelich scoring on a groundout after stealing second and third.
The Pioneers tied it with a pair of runs in the second, but Lawrence took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth. Eric Bohling delivered a run-scoring single, and Rashid drew a bases-loaded walk before Grinnell escaped the jam without further damage.
Grinnell (9-5) cut the lead to 4-3 in the fourth, but Lawrence scored three more times in the sixth on Frelich's three-run blast.
Grinnell got a run in the bottom of the seventh, but Frank Forseth came on in relief for the final out and the save.
In the opening game, Grinnell starter Gary Kahn limited the Vikings to two hits. Kahn struck out seven and walked two.
Chad Takabuki, Paden Roder, and Matt Skelly had two hits apiece to pace Grinnell.
