Johnnies rout Lawrence

PHOENIX, Ariz. -- The St. John's (Minn.) University baseball team put up 11 runs in the fifth inning and rolled to a 23-3 nonconference victory over Lawrence University on Sunday.

Lawrence (0-3) gave up 24 hits and committed six errors. St. John's (5-5) got a great effort from starting pitcher Andrew Aebly, who allowed three runs on four hits over six innings to get the win.

The Vikings actually led 1-0 after manufacturing a run in the first after Doug McEneaney reached on an error. He later scored on Tim Salm's ground out.

St. John's led 3-1 heading into the top of the fifth when the Johnnies broke the game open. St. John's scored 11 runs in the inning on seven hits and got help from five walks and two errors.

Lawrence starter Alex Fritsch gave up 12 hits and 11 runs in 4 2/3 innings to take the loss.

The Johnnies added nine more runs in the ninth on seven hits.

Tommy Schmidt and Ben Webster had two hits apiece to pace the Lawrence offense.

The Vikings face Midwest Conference rival Knox College in a doubleheader on Monday.
