DANVILLE, Va. -- The Lawrence University baseball team picked up its first victory of the season on Friday, as the Vikings split a doubleheader with Endicott College.
Playing on a neutral field at Averett University, Lawrence posted a 10-3 victory in the opener before dropping the nightcap 1-0.
In the opener, the Vikings (1-8) broke a 3-3 tie with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Lawrence started the decisive rally with Bryan Rosen's two-out single. Tommy Schmidt followed with a run-scoring double, and Billy Bodle then tripled to score Schmidt for a 5-3 lead.
Brad Hauser followed with a single to score Bodle, and an error and walk loaded the bases.
Adam Fritsch delivered a two-run single, and Doug McEneaney followed with another two-run single to put Lawrence up 10-3.
Chris Clouthier went the distance to get the win for the Vikings. He allowed seven hits, struck out two and walked one. Evan Neuens paced Lawrence's 11-hit attack by going 3-for-4 and Bodle was 2-for-4.
In the nightcap, Kevin Kangas was the hard-luck loser for the second time this season. Kangas also lost a 1-0 decision on Tuesday to Averett, tied the school record with 13 strikeouts. Chris Isley set the mark back in 1965. Kangas allowed only three hits and walked one.
Jason Newham fired a one-hitter for the Gulls (3-4), who got the game's only run in the sixth inning. Gavin Goftic drove in the game-winner when his single scored Steve Vidmosko in the bottom of the sixth.
