Vikings end spring break trip with loss to Union

AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- Union (N.Y.) College scored in every inning but the eighth and picked up a 10-6 win over the Lawrence University baseball team on Friday.

Lawrence (1-8) got two hits from Wes Otte, A.J. Nathan and Robert Rashid. Otte also drove in four of Lawrence's six runs. Dylan Katz-Wicks and Colin McKelligan had three hits apiece for Union (4-4).

Phil Kemp went seven innings, striking out 12 and walking one, to pick up the win. Andy Frelich went seven innings, striking out seven and walking none, and took the loss.

Lawrence jumped on top when Otte blasted a three-run homer in the top of the first. Union countered with an unearned run without the benefit of a hit in the bottom half of the inning.

Michael Baldino hit his first career homer in the second to put Lawrence up 4-1. McKelligan then belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the second to trim the lead to 4-3.

Union tied it at 4-4 in the third and then added single runs in the fourth and fifth take a 6-5 lead. Union then pulled away with three runs in the sixth, with Katz-Wicks picking up a two-run single in the inning.

Nathan cut the lead to 9-6 with a solo homer in the seventh, but Union countered that with a McKelligan solo homer in the bottom half of the inning.

Union then held the Vikings scoreless for the final two innings to pick up the win.
