APPLETON, Wis. -- Luke Kostreva hit a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning Sunday to help the Lawrence University baseball team complete a Midwest Conference doubleheader sweep of Carroll University at Don Hawkins Field.
The Vikings won the opener 10-6 and took the nightcap 7-6.
Kostreva went 3-for-4 with four runs batted in and two runs scored in the nightcap.
Lawrence (3-16, 2-2 MWC) trailed 3-1 in the second game before rallying for three runs in the fourth. Robert Rashid drove in a run with a single, and Kostreva belted a two-run double to give the Vikings a 4-3 lead.
The Vikings led 5-4 heading to the eighth before Carroll (5-11, 2-2) got a pair of unearned runs to take a 6-5 lead. Lawrence then took the lead back in the bottom half of the inning when Zach Owsley walked, and Kostreva blasted the two-homer to center field to put Lawrence up 7-6.
Andy Frelich completed three innings of work with a 1-2-3 ninth to pick up the win.
Lawrence got a complete-game pitching performance from Owsley in the first game. The freshman picked up his first collegiate win and allowed eight hits, struck out one and walked four.
A.J. Nathan had three hits, three RBIs and three runs scored in the opener. Rashid and Frelich had two hits apiece.
Nathan also stole four bases in the opener as Lawrence broke the school record with 12 stolen bases in the game. The Vikings had tied the previous record of 10 in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Pioneers. Nathan and Davide Harris had five steals apiece in the doubleheader, and Lawrence swiped 19 bases on the day.
Rashid had a two-run single in the fourth, and Lawrence led 4-3 before breaking the game open in the bottom of the fifth.
Nathan and Rashid both had two-run singles as the Vikings scored five times in the fifth to grab a 9-3 lead.
The Vikings tacked on a run in the seventh, and Carroll scored three times in the ninth before Owsley got Tyler Fitzsimmons to line out to end the game.
