An Afternoon of Music
Featuring Cynthia Stiehl, C'89,
and Priscilla Peterson Weaver, C'69

Sunday, October 16, 2005
4:00 p.m.

Home of Ross and Kathleen Dinham Davis, both '64
1530 Satellite Drive
Medford, Oregon

The Lawrence University Alumni Association cordially invites you to an informal afternoon of music-making hosted by Ross and Kathleen Dinham Davis, both '64, in their home. Cynthia Stiehl, voice '89, and Priscilla Peterson Weaver, piano '69, will perform a recital of American art songs and Romantic piano music.

This event is a musical "first" for Lawrence. Cyndy and Priscilla met when Priscilla joined Cyndy on the Board of Trustees. They soon discovered they could occasionally get away with ducking out of board functions (usually receptions where then-President Warch was holding forth!) to make time for singing. They have appeared together in Appleton and in Door County, but this is their first recital in the Pacific Northwest. Our musician-trustees are delighted to have this opportunity to perform for the Lawrence alumni who live in the Rogue Valley.

Jazz pianist and composer Laura Caviani will perform for the first time in Portland on Friday and Saturday, June 10 and 11.

Marian McPartland found Caviani's debut recording "...sparkling and inventive." Her second release was touted as "stunningly fresh" by Jazz Times.

A rising star on the jazz scene in the Midwest, Caviani is primarily known for her long time collaboration with Concord recording artist Karrin Allyson. Through Ms. Allyson and the Concord Jazz Festival, Caviani met and toured with bassist Scott Steed and drummer Todd Strait, both from Portland. They will join her at LV's Uptown for an evening of originals and standards, including works by Thelonious Monk and Horace Silver.

Dear Lawrentians,

It would be fun to have a chance to say hi to any LU alums who happen to live in the area, and reminisce about the "Con", jazz at LU, sliding down Union hill on food trays, and anything else people care to share! Please do come up and say hi on one of our breaks.

Sincerely,
Laura
