As a way of saying "thank you" to our teacher and friend, we present this concert of chamber music by Allen Gimbel. We know Allen from our days at Lawrence University. He was our theory and composition teacher for four years, and both of us greatly benefited from his outstanding knowledge of music and his passion for teaching. Those of us who were fortunate to study composition with him also learned of his considerable talent and prestige as a composer. We mention this only to underscore a fact of Allen's personality, that unlike other composers who teach, Allen never foists his music on his students. You are left to discover it on your own. Join us on October 19 as we introduce Allen Gimbel's music to a new audience of listeners in Florida.

In October 2001, The Lawrence University Board of Trustees approved preliminary plans for the siting of the new residence hall and a future campus center which will substantially enhance the college's residential life facilities. In his presentation, "Envisioning the Campus of Tomorrow," President Warch discusses recent renovation and construction projects at Lawrence and shares some of the exciting plans for the future of the campus and the reasons that prompt them.
Richard Warch has served as president of Lawrence University since 1979. During his tenure, the college's endowment has grown from $25 million to $176 million, and many campus buildings have been constructed or have undergone major renovations including Buchanan Kiewit Recreation Center, Lucia R. Briggs Hall for the Social Sciences, Lawrence Memorial Chapel, Main Hall, Science Hall, Seeley G. Mudd Library, Shattuck Hall of Music, Youngchild Hall of Science, and Wriston Art Center.
All alumni, parents, and friends of Lawrence University are invited to attend.

The Lawrence University Alumni Association of Florida warmly invites all alumni, parents, and friends to cheer on the Viking baseball and softball teams at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic. The 11th Annual Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic offers college and university women's softball and men's baseball teams an opportunity to participate in a tournament during their spring break in a warm climate. This month-long event has grown in size from only 12 teams competing the first year to over 250 teams currently competing annually.
"This will be an exciting tournament for the [baseball] team - to come out of it with a number of wins will mean we're really solid," says head coach Korey Krueger, '95. The majority of the Viking baseball team is young -- freshmen and sophomores -- and last year ended the second half of the season on a winning roll. A Viking player to watch is Jeremy Tollefson, '03, (from Middleton, Wisconsin) at shortstop, who was named to both all-Conference and all-regional teams during his freshman year.
The Lawrence University Fastpitch team is extremely young this season. A senior class of eight graduated last year, and of those players, six were four-year starters. Under the leadership of head coach Kim Tatro, the team has maintained a rich tradition over that last four years...winning Midwest Conference Championships in '97, '98, and '99. With nine new players on the roster, one might call it a "re-building" year, but there is a lot of talent in the freshman class and they will likely be a team to contend with by the end of the season.
