Mission and Background
The Student Relations committee examines new initiatives to enhance the student
experience through alumni activities such as mentoring, pre-orientation programs,
class activities, and so forth. An important part of the mission of this committee
is to promote pluralism and positive experiences for students from diverse backgrounds
and cultures.
Initiatives in the coming year
- Solicit and review Class of ’65 Grant applications, and explore ways to work with LUCC to provide information on all grant opportunities available to students.
- Arrange a Freshman Studies or other classroom visit for alumni board directors.
- Host a spring lunch with student tour guides and admissions staff.
- Continue to brainstorm ways to connect systematically with campus organizations and the administration to ensure LUAA remains connected with students and are perceived as a resource.
Accomplishments of the 2007-2008 year
- Organized a very successful spring open house at the Conservatory, where alumni board members listened to a wind ensemble rehearsal, and then interacted with the musicians and took tours of the facilities.
- Hosted a lunch with Residence Life Advisors for board members to learn more about current life on campus.
- Met with the Multi-Cultural Affairs committee, including the Assistant Dean of Multicultural Affairs and student members, to brainstorm ways to work together to support campus diversity.
- Awarded several applicants with funds from the Class of 1965 Student Activity Grant. The committee began to review the advertising plan and application to solicit more future applications.
