This committee researches, discusses, and then recommends candidates for our annual alumni awards: Outstanding Service, Distinguished Achievement, and Service to Society. They also nominate candidates for the LUAA Board of Directors and the Lawrence Board of Trustees. Committee members actively research candidates for Achievement and Service to Society awards. This committee is chaired by Laura Mueller '73, and is staffed by Jan Daniels Quinlan '74, Executive Director of Alumni Relations, and Lyndsay Sund '01, Associate Director of Alumni Relations.
Nominations and Awards Committee – Mission Statement
Nominations and Awards Committee provides support to the university through a strong alumni Board of Directors and recognition of alumni who: 1) contribute service to the university by giving of their time and effort (Outstanding Service Awards), 2) provide a special accolade to Lawrence by excellence in their chosen field (Distinguished Achievement Awards), or 3) provide service to society that exemplifies making a difference in their community (Service to Society Award).
Committee Goals:
- Solicit and provide a prioritized slate of nominations to the LUAA Board of Directors
- Work with the staff to solicit and provide nominations for Lawrence and
Milwaukee-Downer’s Outstanding Service Awards: Gertrude B. Jupp, M-D’18 Award and the Marshall B. Hulbert, ’26, Young Alumni Award - Solicit and provide nominations for Lawrence and Milwaukee-Downer’s Distinguished Achievement Awards: The Lucia R. Briggs Award and the Nathan M. Pusey Young Alumni Award
- Solicit and provide nominations for the George B. Walter, ’36, Service to Society Awards
- Increase awareness of award winners within the LU community and beyond
- Encourage the engagement of the awards recipients with the LU community
Nominations and Awards Committee – Recent Accomplishments
- Researched and nominated candidates for alumni achievement and distinguished service awards (annually)
- Recommended new members for the LUAA board of directors (annually)
- Initiated and helped implement new searchable data base on all Lawrence alumni award winners
- Initiated and helped develop brochure (updated annually) about alumni award winners which is distributed in Reunion Weekend packets
- Inaugurated annual reception for alumni award winners with college president and faculty during Reunion Weekend
