41. Annunciation of the Theotokos: Vespers and Matins
Recorded by the Schola Cantorum of St. Peter the Apostle, this gives the moveable parts
of the services of Vespers and Matins for March 25, sung in harmonized Carpatho-Rusyn
prostopinije, including the entire Canon of the feast. This is a dialogue between the
Archangel Gabriel and the Theotokos. The services contain many melodies which would
only be heard on this feast. Available through Byzantine Seminary Press, see above.
Thompson directs the Schola Cantorum of Saint Peter the Apostle, a professional choral ensemble of mixed voices headquartered at St. Mary of Perpetual Help Church, Chicago, Illinois. The Schola, founded in 1988, has made forty recordings of liturgical music of the highest quality, from the traditions of the Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Episcopal, and Lutheran traditions. Noted both for its chant and Renaissance polyphony, the recordings also contain significant amounts of music newly composed or arranged specifically for the Schola.
