As a member of the trios Helicon (with Chris Norman and Robin Bullock) and Greenfire
(with Laura Risk) and in solo appearances, Ken has toured extensively, performing in nearly
every state in the continental US as well as Canada and Europe. Ken has been featured in
nationally broadcast concerts on NPR, German National Radio, on the CBC, and on the Voice
of America, and was the first American to be featured at the International Hackbrett
Festival in Germany. His 1999 appearance as soloist with a combined chorus (The Baltimore
Choral Arts) and chamber orchestra from the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra was broadcast in
an Emmy-nominated CBS-TV Christmas special. Known for his expressive and improvisational
style, Ken has also taught at countless festivals and music camps throughout the U.S.
Among Ken's eight recordings, Ken's first solo release in 1997, Walking Stones,
hit the top of the World Music charts and was a top seller for BMG in their Classical/World
Music category. Ken's 1999 recording A Winter Solstice with Helicon
won an "Indie" for Best Seasonal Recording.
October 2004
My new recording called Journey to the Heartland has just come out. After 12 years of recording for Dorian, this CD is on the Maggie's Music label but, for now, is ONLY available on my website. The official release for the recording is not until January, 2005. Maggie's Music was gracious enough to provide me with "pre-release" copies for sale on my website and for a busy up-coming concert schedule. I play hammered dulcimer and fiddle on this one and am joined by some wonderful players.
The recording includes three sets of Quebecois music, lots of old time tunes, some originals, as well as a few tunes from Cape Breton, Scotland, and Ireland. I enlisted a few familiar friends and great players to make me sound better, including long time playing partner Robin Bullock (now living mostly in France) on guitar and mandolin and once again fiddler Laura Risk (now living in Montreal). I was pleased also to have the help of Scottish National Fiddle Champ Elke Baker (from Maryland) and Paddy League (from NY) on guitar.

The CD is only available on my website at this point or at one of my concerts or by contacting me directly.
