What is the best course you’ve taken at LU?

My violin lessons: I love my teacher, Ms. Gu, and I feel like they’ve made the greatest difference in my playing and in my life. Plus, our violin studio class that goes along with lessons is great. I have made a ton of close friends that have helped me grow as a violinist and as a person.

What is an interesting/helpful fact you learned about LU after you came here?

After I came, I learned was how non-cutthroat the conservatory was. I knew I didn’t want that when I was looking at colleges, and I was hoping Lawrence wouldn’t be that way, but I didn’t realize the extent to which it was supportive and not overly competitive. I feel like most kids here just want to make music together at a high level and realize that being overly cutthroat is not the only way to achieve that. I’m really appreciative of the environment that the students and the teachers have created here.

What is something you wish you would have brought with you freshman year?

I wish that I would have brought more lights and more rugs for my room my freshman year. I lived in Plantz, so anything to make it brighter and cozier was great.

Downer, Lucy’s, or Union Grill, and Downer dining room A, B, or C?

The best place to eat is a combination of Downer A, B, and C. I like to grab a salad from A, a sandwich or some pasta from B and then head upstairs for something a little more interesting. I never like to make a meal out of just one line; it’s not quite as fun!

What is your favorite thing to do in Appleton?

Getting gelato from Brewed Awakenings on a sunny spring day is the best.

If you were a crayon or paint swatch, what color would you be?

If I was a color, I’d be “pacific sea teal.” It’s kind of that color when the water in a lake or ocean gets real deep all of a sudden, and the water turns a really brilliant blue green… it’s natural and calming yet exciting at the same time. I really like nature, but I hope I’m not as boring as the color of bark, so I think that’s why I’d be the color of the sea.

What is an uncommon hobby you have, and why do you like it?

I really like windowsill gardening. I love growing herbs and all sorts of different plants… I even tried to grow peas this past year, but it didn’t turn out so well. I really like watching plants grow and having something to take care of that requires less maintenance than a pet. I also like that it’s something that I can still do living in a dorm, and it makes it more like home if there’s plants growing!
