What was the final factor that made you say "yes" to LU's offer of admission?

LU was the school that actually paid attention to me. At other universities I was stood up for sample lessons and didn’t receive timely responses to my questions; when I visited here, I was able to sit in on classes and take a sample lesson with the professor who is now my studio teacher. I even got a friendly e-mail from a professor I hadn’t met who had taken the time to look at my application materials. After four years in a high school of over 5,000 students, I was ready for someone to want to talk to me.

What is an interesting/helpful fact you learned about LU after you came here?

Just last year, actually, I learned that our Information Technology Services (ITS) offers workshops on pretty much any computer program you want—Adobe Photoshop, Acrobat, Microsoft Powerpoint, et cetera—and teaches you how to use them FOR FREE! So when you need to beef up the technological side of your resume, they’ll help you out. Genius!

Downer, Lucy’s, or Union Grill, and Downer dining room A, B, or C?

Downer! It has the largest variety of food, and I don’t feel like I’m actually spending money. Dining room B is the best for lunch and dinner; it’s not too loud and not too quiet. Downer Ais the best for breakfast, though. It’s sunny, and you can always find people or newspapers there.

Where is your favorite study spot?

I love the mezzanine in the conservatory. It’s usually empty, offers a great view of rehearsals, and I’m close enough to go amuse myself on the pianos when I’m tired of homework…

What is your favorite thing to do in Appleton?

When I have the time, I love running or walking around Appleton. There are a few streets that are right by the river, so the run is gorgeous. There are a couple nice cemeteries in walking/running distance, too. There are enough streets here that I can start going and end up somewhere I haven’t been before, but still find my way home pretty easily.

If you were a fruit, which would you be?

I would be a pineapple, because it’s a complex test of willpower. They’re difficult to break into, and you could hurt yourself. Once you do, it’s pretty tasty…but if you eat too much too quickly, your tongue hurts. Boy, do I enjoy complex tests of willpower.

What is an uncommon hobby you have, and why do you like it?

I read the comics and collect particularly funny strips. They end up on the wall of my room or in the mail to someone that they remind me of. It’s vaguely a family tradition—my grandparents and my mother have done it for years, except mostly with refrigerator doors.
