| What was the final factor that made you say "yes" to LU's offer of admission? | I realized that Lawrence was the very best place to go to pursue both academics and music at a high level, and that I didn't have to pick just one! |
| What is the best course (and its department) that you have taken? Why? | "Intro to Religious Studies" with Martyn Smith. This course was focused on how religion has shaped thought and spirituality throughout human history. Mr. Smith encouraged us to examine our own opinions on events, literature, etc. throughout the term, which gave a personalized dimension to the material. It covered unique perspectives in religious thought from many different traditions (Baha'i, Rastafarianism, etc) and our homework involved keeping our own blogs of reflections on readings and cool ideas that we stumbled upon in our studies. |
| What one thing would you say is “The Lawrence Difference”? | Because of our size and the structure of the academic programs, Lawrentians have a lot of academic opportunities here that other Undergraduate institutions can't offer. The slogan "The Power of Individualized Learning" is so true - we live it every day! I've been able to do a lot of individual work with professors and have had some really cool opportunities that took my studies to a new level. This past fall I was Assistant Music Director for our musical, 'Into the Woods', which gave me invaluable teaching and conducting experience. Those are the kinds of unique experiential learning opportunities that all students here at LU have access to, and it makes this campus a really vibrant and exciting place to learn. |
| What is your favorite part about being a Lawrentian? | The community :-) Lawrentians are such an awesome group of people! They're fun, smart, caring, have a lot of different interests, and are great friends. I love living and working with other people who are passionate about so many things and who care about each other, it makes going to college here a fantastic experience! |

| Which is your favorite resident hall? Why? | Colman Hall! The architecture and furnishings (like our huge lounge with a fireplace and murals painted on the walls) make it feel a lot less like a dorm and more like a big house. Colman is so cozy and the community is really strong. Residents will hang out in the lobby and our lounge, just talking, playing games, or watching movies. It's a dorm full of people who enjoy living together! |
| What is something you wish you would have brought with you freshman year? | Boots with better traction! |
| What is your favorite study spot on campus? | I love to study in the Somerset Room of the Campus Center in one of the high-backed armchairs while overlooking the river. It's a gorgeous view, and I have access to it 24 hours a day! |
| What is your favorite thing to do in Appleton? | Go to Brewed Awakenings for a mug of sweet Chai tea and one of their delicious Triple Berry muffins (with all the sugar on top!) |
|
|
| If you could only eat one type of candy bar for the rest of your life, which would you choose? | York Peppermint Patties! So refreshing and delicious, with just a hint of chocolate :-) |
| What is an uncommon hobby you have? Why do you like it? | My friends and I make 'Life Shoes' and give them as birthday presents - white Keds that we color and decorate with images that represent our friends' lives up to this point. They're sort of like a reminder of where you've been and also where those shoes are going to take you! And it's really fun to come up with unique pictures to put on them. |
| What is something LU helped you learn about yourself? | Before coming to college, I used to be teased a lot for caring about school and being involved in many different activities and organizations. Here at Lawrence, those qualities are empowering and something we all have in common! I have come to value my own interests and passions, as well as the interests and passions of my peers, during my time as a Lawrentian. |
