What is the best course (and its department) that you have taken? Why?: At this point in my Lawrence experience, the best course I have taken was definitely General Music Methods I with Professor Brigetta Miller. It was an introduction to the general music classroom, and we really got to dig into the subject of early childhood music education, and this served to solidify my desire to work in that field. My favorite day in that course was definitely the day our class went to the new mothers' class at St. Elizabeth's hospital and had the opportunity to sing and do activities with the moms and their babies. It was an unmatchable experience!
What one thing would you say is “The Lawrence Difference”?: I'm not sure if this is a "thing," but it's the people - Lawrence is like a giant salad of bizarre yet beautiful folks. I have never seen anything quite like the Lawrence mixture on any other campus...and I like it.
What is an interesting/helpful fact you learned about LU after you came here?: Once you're on campus, your sense of time (days, weeks, etc.) is suddenly altered to an almost unrecognizable point. Ten weeks is one thing in high school, but at Lawrence, it's as though you've entered a different zone altogether.
What is your favorite part about being a Lawrentian?: The smallness of the class sizes is awesome - We really get spoiled by our professors who, typically no later than the end of first week, know all of our names and a little (often a lot) about each of us personally. The accessibility of our professors is really phenomenal.
Which is your favorite resident hall? Why?: I'd have to go with Sage for several reasons: The mixture of ages of the people living there gives residents perspective, the proximity to the campus center is amazing, and its overall proximity to a lot of social activities on campus (at the Greek houses, Greenfire, Execs, etc.) is a lot of fun.
What is something you wish you would have brought with you freshman year?: My didgeridoo - Oddly enough, I owned one that my brother had given me years ago, but when I first moved in freshman year, I'd completely forgotten to pack it...and really, only at Lawrence will you find didgeridoos to be anything but irregular.
What is your favorite study spot on campus?: I am an RLA in a converted Guest House this year, and I, along with my four residents, have taken to studying in the main room on the first floor of our house at night. With the fireplace roaring and books sprawled out across the giant conference table separated only by the occasional cup of tea or bag of gummy bears, the atmosphere is just too cozy and conducive to studying.
What is your favorite thing to do in Appleton?: I really like going to Harmony Cafe on College Avenue and hearing the live music - it can be a refreshing change from the usual stuff at the conservatory, and it's always a good feeling to know that supporting Harmony means supporting a great non-profit organization.
If you were a fruit, which would you be? Why?: If I were a fruit, I would most likely be a Door County Cherry. For my small size, I think I have a lot of flavor [personality], and I'm fairly sweet. Additionally, just as Door County Cherries are great either with ice cream or as a meat glaze, I love encountering new and different situations and meeting new kinds of people...and did I mention I'm from Northeast Wisconsin, just shy of Door County?
If you could only eat one type of candy bar for the rest of your life, which would you choose?: Sadly, I've thought about this question before, and the answer was and still is that I would choose a Kit-Kat. They're crunchy, chocolatey, and you get to break them yourself - What a stimulating, sweet, and empowering experience!
What is an uncommon hobby you have? Why do you like it?: I have a fetish for finding and watching terrible horror movies - the more obscure and poorly made/acted, the better. I think it's because of my firm belief that laughter is indeed the best medicine, and truly awful horror movies have magnificent medicinal qualities!
What was your favorite theme party thrown this year at LU, and what did you dress as?: I'm going to have to go with Beta's Jammy Jam party - I dressed in shiny gold pjs and was relieved at the end of the night when I conveniently didn't have to change clothes for bed!
