What was the final factor that made you say "yes" to LU's offer of admission?: I know this is the most cliche and frustrating answer but when I came to visit, I just got that feeling that this was the right place! Everyone was so genuinely interested in having me there and they really catered my visit to my needs. I was more than just another prospective student, I was a potential Lawrentian.
Who is your favorite professor (and their department) at LU? Why?: I hate to have to choose a favorite professor (A: I have several! And B: Gotta stay on every prof’s good side- what if they read this!?). Anyway, I really enjoy taking Frederick classes. He’s in the history department and teaches most of the Latin American studies classes. He’s an amazing lecturer and it just sounds like he’s telling you a thrilling bedtime story all class!
What one thing would you say is “The Lawrence Difference”?: Lawrence is unique because of all of the opportunities it presents. Lawrence students get so involved in so many activities- clubs, sports, music, art- and have such diverse interests. I don’t know anyone who JUST goes to class.
What is your favorite part about being a Lawrentian?: My favorite thing about being a Lawrentian, as far as academics go, is the relationships you can build with professors. Classes are small enough that all of my professors know who I am and we stop and talk when we see each other around (or even off!) campus, even if I had them for just one class a couple years ago.
What is something you wish you would have brought with you freshman year?: Ridiculous clothes for costumes. We had goofy dress-up days all the time in high school but I must have thought college students were too mature for that but I thought wrong! We have so many theme parties that those bright spandex and glittery tops come in handy quite a bit.
What do you find most exciting about the new Campus Center?: The cinema is pretty cool. They show tons of different types of movies- movies for fun, independent films, concerts, movies for classes, student films, cult classics.
What is your favorite study spot on campus?: I have a different study spot for different types of work. I like to do my reading in the periodical section, paper writing occurs on the first floor of the lib, and studying for tests happens on the 2nd floor of the campus center.
What is your favorite thing to do in Appleton?: Swim in the Fox River! Just kidding, don’t do that. I’m a runner so I like lacing up my trainers and exploring the city on foot. This is my fourth year running here and we’re always finding new parks and neighborhoods to run in.
If you were a fruit, which would you be? Why?: Maybe I would be a Hedgeapple even though I’m not sure it counts. They look like bright green brains and we found a tree full of them at one of our cross country meets. I don’t think you can eat them and I also would also prefer not to be someone’s after-class snack.
If you could only eat one type of candy bar for the rest of your life, which would you choose?: My go to candy bar is a Take 5. Sweet, salty, crunchy and creaming.
What is an uncommon hobby you have? Why do you like it?: It’s not really a hobby but I color code my planner. And I write EVERYTHING in it, even if I already completed the task.
What was your favorite theme party thrown this year at LU, and what did you dress as?: I’m a big fan of ugly sweater parties because they’re simple and goofy. I alternate between a sweater with bowling pins and a bowling ball and one with a bunch of white lambs and one black lamb on it.
