Lawrence enrolls students who have challenged themselves in high school/secondary school, who express themselves well both orally and in writing, and who are imaginative, energetic, and willing to become active members of a learning community. Financial aid is available to international students at Lawrence. However, an applicant is most competitive for admission if they have at least approximately $15,000 USD available for their education each year.
Students can apply online electronically or download an application for printing. Lawrence does not usually mail paper applications to international addresses since both these options are available. Please notify our office, however, if you would prefer a paper application.
International students applying for financial aid should apply through Regular Decision (January 15). International students who are not applying for financial aid are eligible to apply under Early Decision or Early Action. Since we have a limited number of vacancies and scholarships for international students, priority consideration is given to those who complete their application by January 15. We will continue to accept applications, however, as long as there are openings in the class. Please remember it is to your advantage to complete your application before January 15 and preferably by January 1.
SAT, ACT, or TOEFL scores
A TOEFL or other English aptitude score (such as from an ACT or SAT test) is required of all international students whose native language is not English, or whose previous instruction was not in English. The minimum recommended TOEFL score is 575 (paper) or 233 (computer). Students with TOEFL scores lower than these figures tend to have a difficult time with the academic rigor of Lawrence. Lawrence's code for both the SAT and TOEFL is 1398.
Financial Forms: Certification of Finances and International Financial Aid Form
The Certification of Finances form is required of all international applicants. Federal regulations require that students provide documentation showing the ability to afford the educational expenses they will incur for all four years of university attendance. Therefore, international applicants must demonstrate they have funds available for their education as a part of the admissions process.
In addition to the Certification of Finances form, students must submit supporting documents verifying this information. Supporting documents could include (but are not limited to):
We do accept attested (copied and notarized) transcripts and test results. All documents can also be faxed to the Admissions Office. Students should also put the original documents in the mail once they are faxed. We reserve the right to request all originals at any stage in the admissions process.
