Applying for Financial Aid

To apply for financial aid at Lawrence, you and your family must: submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Lawrence University Application for Financial Aid (LUAPP).

We cannot guarantee full funding for students whose financial aid documents are received after the filing deadline of March 15.

Additionally you must submit signed copies of your parent's 2007 Federal Tax Returns and W-2 forms. *Please Note: Missing tax forms will *not* delay the receipt of your financial aid award; however we will require that taxes be submitted to finalize your award. Awards made prior to receiving taxes will be considered tentative.

Applying Online
Applicants are encouraged to complete the FAFSA electronically and are also encouraged to obtain a Department of Education Personal Identification Number (PIN) that will allow them to electronically sign the FAFSA.  PINs do not expire and can also be used at numerous other Department of Education sites.  FAFSAs that are signed and submitted electronically are typically processed within two weeks.

Applying by Mail
Paper FAFSAs are available from your secondary school college counseling office, usually in late November or early December. You should make every attempt to complete this application at the earliest possible date, but keep in mind that you cannot mail or submit the FAFSA to the federal processor prior to January 1. It can take four to six weeks for the FAFSA to be processed. Remember to list Lawrence (003856) on the FAFSA so your information can be released to us.

Student Aid Report
After the FAFSA is processed, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR), which asks you to verify the accuracy of the information you provided on the FAFSA. It lists the Estimated Family Contribution (EFC), which is used in determining your eligibility for federal aid (grants, loans and work-study). Remember, the Family Contribution includes your assets and income, not just your parent(s).

Non-Custodial Parent Form
If your parents are separated or divorced, we require your non-custodial parent (the parent whom you do not live with) to submit a Non-Custodial Form. In cases where this form can not be completed by the non-custodial parent, the student must submit a statement in writing explaining the why this form cannot be completed.

Verification
If you have been selected for verification by the Department of Education, you must complete a 2007-08 Verification Worksheet and submit it with your federal tax documents to the Office of Financial Aid. Tax Documents required for verification include signed copies of your parent(s) and your Federal Tax Forms and W-2s. Your file cannot be considered complete, nor can an offer of assistance be finalized, until the Office of Financial Aid has received and reviewed all necessary financial aid application materials.
