"Light! More Light!" These words, found on the Lawrence University seal, are believed to be the last uttered by Goethe. (They were uttered in German, but that's beside the point.) The phrase illustrates Lawrence's belief that all of our students, when they employ their talents to the fullest, can bring light - more light - to the world.
In the same spirit, the following More Light! Scholarships recognize Lawrence applicants who have employed their talents to the fullest.
Community Engagement Scholarships ($1,000 to $7,000 per year)
Lawrence University students give extraordinary energy to their on-campus and off-campus communities. Community Engagement Scholarships recognize students with outstanding school-based and/or community-focused engagement, service and leadership.
Environmental Leadership Scholarships ($1,000 to $7,000 per year)
Lawrence University is committed to greening its campus and cultivating habits of mind and disposition that lead to care of the earth. We hope to attract and develop students with similar interests. These scholarships recognize students who are ecologically intelligent and have engaged in (and quite often led) activities that contribute to environmental sustainability and care of the earth.
Global Perspectives Scholarships ($1,000 to $7,000 per year)
As one of the nation's most internationally diverse liberal arts colleges, Lawrence is a place that values broad global experiences and perspectives. These scholarships, for United States citizens, recognize students with outstanding international service and/or study experiences.
Eligibility
Eligibility for and amounts of More Light! Scholarships will be determined by a careful reading of your application and supporting materials. If you have engaged in activities that you believe would make you a strong candidate for one or more of the More Light! Scholarships, be sure to include them in your application, and feel free to draw our attention to them. (In other words, don't be shy when you're writing about your accomplishments.)
More Light! Scholarships may be combined with Academic or Music Scholarships, or they may stand on their own. In extraordinary circumstances, they may be combined with each other.
Application and Notification
Submit your completed Common Application and Lawrence Supplement by the appropriate application deadline. If you receive a More Light! Scholarship, you will learn about it at the time you receive your admission decision from us.
