Receiving Academic Credit for Off-Campus Programs

All Lawrence programs grant academic credit. Depending on the length and the content of the program, credit is offered in varying amounts and in varying academic areas. For example, the Lawrence London Centre has no prerequisites and its courses fulfill the general education requirements for any student; the Tanzania Program has several prerequisites and offers courses only in the social and natural sciences. It is important to keep in mind which program you want to attend when selecting courses on-campus.

Many students think that they will not be able to participate in an off-campus program because they have too many requirements to complete on campus or the required courses are offered at times that prevent them from leaving campus. At Lawrence this is not true.

The trimester system allows for three distinct times in the academic year to study abroad. You can attend a term or semester program in the fall and still take two terms of classes at Lawrence in the winter and spring. Because our off-campus study opportunities are not limited to the junior year, you will be able to schedule your time away when it best fits your academic schedule. Many students choose to complete general education requirements while on an off-campus program and, thus, save space in their schedule on-campus for courses in their major.
