Honor Code

No Lawrence student will unfairly advance his or her own academic performance or in any way limit or impede the academic pursuits of other students of the Lawrence community.

Lawrence’s Honor Code can be summed up in one phrase: 29 Words: Infinite Virtue. Underscoring the entire campus and all of students is a permeating sense of trust, collaboration, privilege, and responsibility, influenced by the philosophies of our Honor Code. The idea that you, as a student, are responsible for your own learning, as well as responsible for the quality of learning of your peers, allows Lawrence students such academic privileges as un-proctored exams.

Moreover, the idea that you are responsible for yourself, and for the well-being of your peers, makes Lawrence a safe, trustworthy, uncompetitive, and nurturing environment for not only learning, but living as well. Lawrence students affirm the Honor Code on every assignment they complete – from a paragraph to an honors project – as a sign to themselves and others that they promise to respect uphold the ideals of the code, while also observing their implicit obligation to making Lawrence an outstanding environment for working and living.

The Honor Council, which evaluates any potential academic infractions of the Honor Code, is a panel of students, not faculty or staff. Students on the Council investigate any violations of the Honor Code, and decide upon appropriate action should a fellow student be found in violation of the Code. You may nominate yourself or other students that you think appropriate to serve on the Honor Council.
