Benvenuti - Welcome to the Italian home page!

There are infinite numbers of reasons for embarking on the sweet journey of learning Italian at Lawrence.

Italy has a rich cultural history that attracts students from all over the world to places like Firenze (Florence), Venice, Rome, etc. By studying Italian, students can speak the language of Dante, Petrarca, and Boccaccio - le tre corone fiorentine - who delineated the course of the official language in Italy.

As one of the Romance languages, Italian has a sweet, melodious, rhythmic intonation that lends itself so well to Il bel canto. For this reason, this language should be very attractive to students in the Conservatory at Lawrence.

Besides Italian grammar, phonetics, and syntax in general, students will learn about the tenets of Italian culture, like fare bella figura, which permeates the way in which Italians live and interact with others. This concept is part of everyday life and relates to the arts, fashion, literature, etc.

Finally, every student who enrolls in Italian is expected to go to Italy and eat gelato everyday!
