There is a required pre-departure meeting in May for all Centre participants for the following academic year. This meeting involves an overview of the Centre staff and facilities, the room-selection process, making travel arrangements, and other general travel and intercultural information.
On-site orientation takes place in the first few days after arrival in London. Attendance is mandatory, so students must make their travel arrangements accordingly.
During orientation, students will meet Lawrence and FIE staff and receive information about life at the Centre, life in London, safety and security issues, and transportation in and around London. Orientation also includes a walking tour of the London Centre's South Kensington neighborhood and a traditional "pub meal". Students are also oriented to academic expectations and culture on the London Centre program. There is also ample time for students to settle into their rooms, do some grocery shopping, and start exploring the city before classes begin on Monday morning.
